Temporary Stay

Each day I rise

Wishing for the best

In this mad, mad world

I seek higher reason

Sifting truth through red and blue

As leaving all to chance

Is such a risky thing to do

Watch the river run

Flowing strong and true

Left on her own

Nature plots the course

With steady force -- not fight or flight

Smoothing jagged edges

Rolling onward through the night

Pause a moment, take a breath

Leaving one door open

Closing tightly all the rest

Little children laugh and play

They don’t realize

We’re on a temporary stay

And this may be the day (that changes)

This may be the day that changes everything

Have a look around

Everywhere you’ll see

In these sad, sad times

All that once was solid

Seems to melt before our eyes

We can find no promise

From the words of the unwise

Stop a moment, hold your breath

Leaving one eye open

While the body lays to rest

Little children laugh and play

They don’t realize

We’re on a temporary stay

And this may be the day (that changes)

This may be the day that changes everything

Take it all with a hefty grain of salt

Don’t lose sleep dears

This is not your fault

This is not your fault

This is not your fault

(Stay) on a temporary

(Stay) on a temporary

(Stay) on a temporary stay

Little children laugh and play

They don’t realize

We’re on a temporary stay

And this may be the day (that changes)

This may be the day (that changes every)

This may be the day that changes everything

Take in the Air

Call it something like art

Your token brush strokes lose meaning in the dark

Watching paint dry from afar

Canvassing the remains that fell apart

Prospering from the pain

You fail to see that our loss is not your gain

The garish colors displayed always run

That’s the way of things

Desperate measures gaining strength

That’s the way of things

Always on the hunt for easy prey

In the scheme of things

Push it past the warning track

I think we just hit the wall

And so we write a new song

Esoteric, the wrong key, and too long

A melody few can hum

But all the parts are deserving of the sum

You pick the simple to blame

Struggling to catch up with falsehood fame

But which of us is in tune and in time?

That’s the way of things

Desperate measures draining strength

That’s the way of things

Always on the hunt for easy prey

In the scheme of things

Push it past the warning track

I think we just hit the wall

Take in the air

Take in the air while we still can

Take in the air

Better to trip -- better to fall

Take in the air

Take in the air while we still can

Take in the air

Better to trip -- better to fall

Along the way to the cause

We kept a journal of all the pros and cons

On every page scary words

In a language that you have never heard

We hesitate to proceed

While you lambaste the marks you cannot read

Critiquing truth with a match -- lies will burn

Take in the air

Take in the air while we still can

Take in the air

Take in the air while we still can

Take in the air

Take in the air while we still can

Take in the air

Better to trip -- better to fall

A Softer Landing

Stuck in the mud again

I feel that I could use a friend tonight

Stuck in the mud again

But we all know that sin is not in sight

Color me a shade of sadness

Marked as the beast of madness

Never a cogent thought

Policy is bought and sold on whim

Leaving us so distraught

Like Winston caught and caged without a pen

Rape me with sandpaper tongue

The revolution’s just begun

Doesn’t help us get anywhere with words

A deathly silence taking us all to church

Surely you have seen this movie before

A softer landing is what I’m hoping for

Doesn’t help us get anywhere with words

A deadly silence taking us all to church

Surely you have seen this movie before

A softer landing is what we’re hoping for
